Construction of the Drawbridge Connecting Muara North and Muara South at Kuala Terengganu.
   

The iconic drawbridge which currently under construction at the estuary of the Terengganu river, linking Kuala Terengganu City Centre to Kuala Nerus via Seberang Takir, will be a new state landmark when completed. The construction work on the RM240 million, 638m drawbridge, flanked by two four-storey towers began in August 2014.

The bridge would shorten the journey from Kuala Terengganu to the Sultan Mahmud Airport to approximately 10 minutes via a coastal road which would be built by the state government soon.

He said that the drawbridge would also reduce traffic congestion on the Sultan Mahmud bridge caused by the rapid development in Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus.

The Contract Sum is Ringgit Malaysia Two Hundred Forty Eight Million Seven Hundred Twenty Eight Thousand Six Hundred Sixty (RM248,728,660.00) only. The contract duration is 135 weeks, commencing on the date for possession of the Site on 13 August 2014. However, due to improvisations, the works are still in progress and a new completion date will be determined soon.

The project site is located between Muara North and Muara South, the two reclaimed areas on the north and south of the Terengganu River, Kuala Terengganu. The bridge to be constructed shall serve as a bridge link to connect the two abovementioned land areas and to create a strategic connection between the Kuala Terengganu city across the north and south of the Terengganu River, all the way to the Kuala Terengganu’s Sultan Mahmud Airport. The overall length of the bridge is 632m, with a width of 23m. The clear span of the drawbridge is 50m long.
